'American Idol': Q&As With the Top 13!(Previous 4)

Any theme nights you are really dreading?
Casey Abrams: I'd be scared of a polka night for sure, but an all Tenacious D night would please me endlessly. I love their brand of comedy and hardcore rock and roll.
Naima Adedapo: I am a tad bit afraid of country, I will admit it. Not sure how I will find a song that showcases my voice, especially since I don't know anything about country. I would love it if Idol would give us a reggae night. I think I would have a leg up on the competition. I have the hair for it.
Lauren Alaina: I'm not really nervous about the themes, because I listen to all types of music. If they do the one from the year I was born, that might be difficult, because I'm not that familiar with the songs so there will be a learning curve.

James Durbin: I feel like I am very versatile, so nothing scares me. I have sung rock, country, Motown, and R&B. Jazz even. I like all kinds of music from Bublé to Dio to John Mayer. I love free form jazz and bluesy rock. I have built myself to a point that I can obliterate any obstacle they throw in my path. Bring on the '70s night. I will make it hard.
Ashthon Jones: I cannot wait. Now is not the time to be nervous, When you are in the top 13 you have to bring it every performance night. You have to handle the nerves because you can't show them. They will slow you down.
Stefano Langone: Rock. I have never sung a rock song in my life. I think I can do it and I will probably have to do it. Hopefully James will give me a few pointers.
Jacob Lusk: I look forward to the themes because they challenge us. My voice isn't applicable to all genres, but usually you can find one song that can be adapted to fit you. Like if we have a country week, I already know I want to do Rascal Flatts ''Here Comes Goodbye.'' I absolutely love that song, and it is theoretically country, but has a bit of a gospel leaning. For rock week, I can't wait to sing some Steven Tyler. That's rock, but sung by a big voice guy. Bring it on.
Scotty McCreery: I don't know the themes this year, but maybe disco or Motown. But I can change it up. People don't know this but in my audition before I even saw the judges, I auditioned singing John Mayer and Frank Sinantra. Country isn't the only thing I have up my sleeve. But I don't know about disco.
Paul McDonald: I don't think I could handle an '80s hair metal night, or maybe like a death metal night. James would be thrilled by that theme and he would blow us all out of the water. But I do like the idea of being pushed outside of my comfort zone, and the theme nights force you to do that. It is a tool for them to really test how good you are at defining yourself as an artist and how you can take material and make it your own. I am used to writing my own songs and going to a studio and hammering it out. This is a challenge. So if they choose disco night, bring it on. I'll try to do as good as I can. I have rocked a bell bottom at least once in my life.
Thia Megia: I try to get myself singing as many genres as I can so they don't scare me. The real challenge is making a song your own. It is a fine line, because I think people like to recognize a song too. I like to make the song my own and not even country scares me. I've sung plenty of country before.
Haley Reinhart: Everyone says country if they aren't a country artist, but I am not scared of that because I know how to yodel. That's how I started singing when I was 8. So maybe I'd do a little ''Blue'' by LeAnn Rimes that night. But definitely picking a good song within the theme is the most important decision you make all week. All it takes is one bad song to send you home. People forget every week what you did almost as soon as the show is over. The song choice could save or send you home.
Karen Rodriguez: No. I want to take on everything. Country, disco, movie songs, jazz, rock, whatever. Versatility is key to winning the competition.
Pia Toscano: I love challenges so I am ready to rise to the occasion and take on anything. Nothing really scares me. I think I may learn about some new people in the process and expand my musical knowledge.

This is the stage where contestants often get make-overs — anything you'd love or loathe to change?
Casey Abrams: I am open to suggestions, but I don't think I'd shave my beard or my head or my legs.
Naima Adedapo: I will not cut my hair. It's a part of me and my life. There are a few tweaks I might be able to do but I am happy with who I am and sticking to what I know has gotten me this far.
James Durbin: My scarves are going nowhere. I think I will not do the headband so much but the tail is me man.
Ashthon Jones: I am a girly girl. I say bring on anything.
Stefano Langone: I am looking forward to rocking some awesome shoes on stage. Shoes are my thing, like tails are James' thing.
Jacob Lusk: I am pretty happy with myself, but I sure like the help finding new clothes and having the reason to wear purple sneakers with a matching tie.
Scotty McCreery: I am open to suggestions, but I am not a cowboy hat kind of guy. A lot of people think it is weird that I don't wear one being the country guy, but I never have been into them. My hair on the other hand could use a cut. It's getting a little long on the sides. I could use it for sure.
Paul McDonald: People are talking a lot about my teeth. I never realized that they were that white. It helps that I don't drink tea or coffee. I brush them every once in awhile. I use Crest Vivid White toothpaste. Maybe if you print that, I'll get some free paste sent my way. I will be happy to be a spokesperson. It works. I am a thrift store guy. I love an embroidered shirt and a vintage suit. I don't think they'd try to make me wear one, but I don't think I could pull off the Adam Lambert-type studs and leather or feathers ensembles. I think the goal of the makeovers is to just be the best you. I know myself and my style pretty well at this point, but they might help you find a less used vintage vest.
Karen Rodriguez: It's like our closets doubled in size overnight. What girl doesn't love shopping and finding a pretty dress? I'll take all the help they want to give me.
Pia Toscano: I love some white teeth. Paul could give us all some tips. He has the best smile. I thought I had white teeth until I met Paul. I love change and I love playing dress up. I would be thrilled to reinvent myself every week and keep people guessing. Working with a stylist is just another perk of the show.
