A three-way trade is in the works that would send Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks by the Feb. 24 deadline, a person involved with the talks but requesting anonymity because the deal isn't done told. The Knicks would send forward Anthony Randolph and center Eddy Curry to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who would send forward Corey Brewer— but not a first-round draft choice, as reported by ESPN.com — to the Nuggets to facilitate the deal.
Curry, in the final year of an expiring contract, would be waived. He is making $11,276,863 for this year but has not played because he was injured at the start and now is not in shape, according to Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni.
With the news swirling Monday, Anthony tied his career high with 50 points in a 108-103 loss to the Houston Rockets, including nine points in the final minute.
Clippers' solid core: The Los Angeles Clippers aren't in the playoff picture, but that doesn't mean they will stand pat before the trade deadline.
The Clippers opened the season losing 12 of 13 games but have gone 18-19 since with All-Star power forward Blake Griffin (22.9 points and 12.8 rebounds a game) and shooting guard Eric Gordon (24.1 points, 4.5 assists) leading the offense.
Los Angeles is about $5 million below the salary cap and has three players with expiring contracts: swingman Rasual Butler and forwards Ike Diogu and Craig Smith.
Daniels' spirits good: Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said guard Marquis Daniels was in good spirits Monday after leaving the court on a stretcher with a bruised spinal column during Sunday's 91-80 victory vs. the Orlando Magic.
INJURY: Boston's Daniels fully functional after injury
"He's going to be OK," Rivers said after exchanging texts with Daniels. "As far as playing basketball, we don't know that yet. As far as life and health, he'll be OK. And that's all that matters to me right now."
