National media blasts Dallas-Fort Worth for weather 'debacle'

His team in shambles, his big Super Bowl week drowned by weather, Jerry Jones still found plenty of reasons to smile earlier this week.
But can he today?
Jones might be frowning after another blast of winter has slammed Texas.
Several inches of snow made driving hazardous and prompted the cancellation of flights at airports just two days before the Super Bowl at Jones' Cowboys Stadium.
The Dallas Morning News columnist Tim Cowlishaw tells his Twitter followers welcome to "Siberia" and adds, "Was supposed to be in high 40s Sunday, now they're talking about more snow? No impact on game, of course. Serious impact on another SB here."
Peter King of Sports Illustrated tweeted on the mess: "I'm telling you: I-30 between Dallas + Fort Worth is a plow-less, snow-windswept moonscape. This is officially a debacle."
Jones expected on Tuesday, "beautiful days at the end of the week."
Let's hope he's a better NFL talent evaluator than weatherman.
The snowfall began in most areas early morning Friday, moving from south to north through the region. Totals varied widely, but were generally greater to the east. At Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the official snowfall by sunrise was 1.8 inches. But people near Dallas Love Field reported receiving more than 4 inches; in Arlington, 5 inches.
Newsday NFL columnist Bob Glauber: "NFL owners approved NY/NJ Super Bowl at a meeting last May in ... Dallas. Getting a sneak peak at what is might be like with the snow." ... "Completely agree. We know snow in NY/NJ!!" in response to "NY/NJ Super Bowl won't be like this one, NY/NJ OWN plows, salt trucks!"
CNBC business reporter Darren Rovell: "Academy Sports canceling its Emmitt Smith event tonight & closing all Dallas-Fort Worth stores by 5pm. Expect more weather fallout."
ESPN writer David Ubben tweeted: "A foot of snow for All-Star Weekend? Ice and six inches of snow for the Super Bowl? What did Jerry Jones do to Mother Nature's daughter?"
Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch: "As a New Yorker, I'm used to this tableau. But this is crazy for Dallas. View from a backyard in town."
Detroit radio host Jamie Samuelsen: "I hope some writer writes a column praising Detroit this weekend. We were totally prepared for bad weather. Dallas, clearly, is not."
CNBC sports writer Darren Rovell: "After salt and shovels, heat lamps are the next most coveted item. Party planners freaking out about keeping fans/execs warm"
SI.com writer Stewart Mandel: "Hey people in Dallas: This snow apocalypse you're whining about en masse, we in New York call it "Tuesday"...Estimate: 80 percent of sportswriters at Super Bowl complaining about weather also complain about the BCS, played in Arizona/Calif/Fla/N.O."
National radio host Jim Rome: "6 inches of snow? Really, Dallas? Good luck getting another Super Bowl."
ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter: "One Fort Worth restaurant owner projected his establishment would generate $850,000 this week. Now he said he'd be happy with $85,000."
Not everyone had a poor outlook.
Melissa Rycroft , the former Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars contestant, and former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader tweeted: "Day 4 of snow and ice. But, snow or not, we're venturing out tonight for our first round of Super Bowl Parties in Dallas!! Woohoo!!"
Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant: "We not gon let the snow stop the show! Come party with me ... tonight at @ClubCirque2k11! 1930 Pacific, 10 P.M!"
The snowfall was expected to end everywhere by noon.
At 7 a.m., the temperature was around 20, but with winds, it felt like 8.
The temperature is not expected to rise above freezing, however, until Saturday, when the high might hit the low 40s. But by Saturday night, it will dip again to the upper 20s.
North Texas is still trying to recover from Tuesday's ice storm, part of a massive system that brought tremendous snow and bone-chilling temperatures to a large swath of the country this week.
A winter storm warning is in effect for Arlington, where the Steelers and the Packers will play in Cowboys Stadium with the retractable roof closed.
