A private funeral for Amy Winehouse will be held today and is being billed as “a family and close friends affair,” a rep for the British songbird’s family said yesterday.

Officials began an autopsy yesterday to determine what killed the 27-year-old Grammy Award-
winning artist, who was found dead in her home in London’s Camden district last Saturday. The toxicology test results are expected in two to four weeks. No formal cause of death has been established, but when it is it will be announced at the inquest on Oct. 26. Officials reportedly did not find any paraphernalia or sign of drugs in Winehouse’s home. She had a history of drug and alcohol abuse.
Meanwhile, details about the “Rehab” singer’s final hours are coming to light. Her rep, Chris Goodman, told the Sun yesterday that a bodyguard hired to keep watch over the singer discovered her body.
“She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to sleep, and when he went to wake her he found she wasn’t breathing,” Goodman told the tabloid. “He called the emergency services straight away. He was very shocked. At this stage no one knows how she died. She died alone in bed.”
Winehouse’s parents, Mitch and Janis, returned to her north London house yesterday, calling themselves “devastated and speechless.”
“Amy was about one thing, and that was love,” Mitch Winehouse said to the fans and media gathered at the makeshift shrine outside his daughter’s home. “Her whole life was devoted to her family, friends, and to you guys as well. So we’re devastated, and I’m speechless.”
Winehouse’s family said she had visited the doctor as recently as last Friday and received a clean bill of health. There were also reports that she had entered treatment again as recently as last month.
Winehouse was working on an album before she died, according to reports, but canceled her latest tour last month after a show in Serbia where her less-than-Grammy-worthy performance got her booed by the crowd.
Musical tributes for Winehouse are pouring in. The latest are from British rapper M.I.A, who released a track called “27” referring to Amy’s age — the same age as star-crossed rockers Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain when they died — and OutKast’s Big Boi, who tweeted a link to his remix of Winehouse’s “Tears Dry on Their Own.”
