Baby born as cyclone Yasi batters Australia

Akiko Pruss shows off her newborn daughter, born in an evactuation centre as Cyclone Yasi battered Queensland. Akiko Pruss gave birth to a baby girl in Redlynch State College’s first aid room after she was was evacuated to there when the once-in-a-century category five cyclone hit.
Healthy and right on schedule, the girl arrived at 6.09am after a short, three-hour labour.
Mrs Pruss had wanted to give birth at home, but the cyclone had disrupted her plans. Once the winds had died down, mother and baby were moved to the local hospital. Despite suggestions that Mrs Pruss and her husband Christian should name the infant after Cyclone Yasi, it seemed unlikely.
“Akiko doesn’t like that name at all,” local councillor Linda Cooper, who was present for the birth, said.
